Proposal: Expanding Third Eye Kit (T.E.K.) into an Open-Source Haptic-Tactile Interface Engine
To: Technical Team & Advisory Board From: T.E.K. R&D Lead Subject: Proposal for Expanding T.E.K. Beyond Outdoor Navigation into a Modular Spatial-Haptic Human Input/Output System Website Reference: tek.sadeqi.me
1. Executive Summary & Vision Statement
Currently, human-computer interaction (HCI) relies heavily on visual outputs for spatial awareness. Non-sighted users lack a high-bandwidth, non-auditory input channel to perceive 2D/3D spaces in real time. Screen readers overload auditory awareness, which visually impaired individuals depend on for environmental safety.
We propose expanding Third Eye Kit (T.E.K.) from a spatial navigation tool into a generalized, open-source tactile sensory transducer. By converting visual, spatial, and vector data (from real-world cameras or digital game engines) into a soft wearable haptic array, T.E.K. will allow users to "feel" spatial boundaries, vectors, doors, obstacles, and surfaces.
2. Core Wearable Design & Ergonomics
- Soft Bandage Form Factor: A flexible, comfortable wrapper designed to be worn around high-surface-area areas like the back, chest, or thigh, allowing gentle, non-intrusive feedback.
- Grid Resolution (4 × 4 or 5 × 5 Array): Utilizing 16 to 25 tactile nodes spread across a 15 × 15 cm footprint to match the human skin's two-point discrimination threshold (~30 to 40 mm on the back/torso).
- Sensory Fatigue Mitigation:
- Dynamic pulse modulation (short micro-bursts of 50 to 100 ms) instead of static, continuous vibration to prevent mechanoreceptor numbness.
- Transitioning from standard ERM motors to Linear Resonant Actuators (LRAs) for instant response, silent operation, and subtle intensity scaling.
- Recommended daily usage/training limit of ~2 hours based on telemetry feedback collected via the mobile app.
3. Technical Architecture & Latency Targets
The mobile device acts as the core processing engine ("the mind"), processing frames and firing compact spatial packets over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or USB-C.

- End-to-End Latency Target: < 35 ms
- Frame Capture & Downsampling: ~10 ms (low-res depth/edge buffer, e.g., 64 × 64)
- Ego-Centric Vector Engine: ~8 ms (maps 360° environment into grid directional cues)
- BLE Transmission: ~5 ms (low-overhead 16-byte array packet)
- Actuator Activation: ~3 ms (instant LRA response)
4. Game Engine Integration ("Spatial Flight Simulator")
Before navigating complex physical spaces, users will build tactile spatial memory in virtual environments (e.g., open-world sandboxes like GTA, MineTest, or custom Unity/Unreal mods).
- Ego-Centric Spatial Mapping: Instead of rendering full visual frames, T.E.K. translates relative spatial vectors, directional arrows, door locations, approaching boundaries, and surface changes.
- Virtual-to-Real Training Pipeline: Operating in a game engine acts as a safe, low-risk training ground to learn tactile gestures and refine personal sensitivity profiles before outdoor deployment.
5. Open-Source Ecosystem & Modularity
- T.E.K.-Link API: An open, lightweight SDK enabling developers to stream spatial matrix data to T.E.K. from any application (game engine, screen translator, or navigation software).
- Custom Remapping Interface: A web and mobile portal allowing users to customize grid size, vibration intensity curves, spatial scaling, and placement modes.
6. Action Items Requested from the Board
