I am blind or visually impaired: the story in one minute

See it worn

A person puts on the kit and walks a street, in seven drawn scenes. Where it buzzes is where something is. How strong it buzzes is how close.

Press Play the walk to watch. There is no sound. Every scene is also written out below.

1 of 7, Putting it on

The walk, scene by scene

  1. 1.Putting it on

The belt closes at the waist, the collar rests on the shoulders, and a band goes on each ankle. Every closure is found by touch.

  2. 2.Walking a street

Calm and upright, at their own pace. Nothing is near, so the kit stays quiet.

  3. 3.A branch at head height

A branch reaches across the path at head height. The collar buzzes at the front, where it would hit.

  4. 4.A glass door

A glass door is ahead. The laser can pass through glass, but the sonar catches it, and the belt buzzes at the front. The closer it is, the stronger.

  5. 5.Someone crossing fast

Someone crosses quickly in front. The radar sees the motion, and the buzz moves across the belt the way they are moving.

  6. 6.A step down

The ground drops ahead. The downward laser grid reads it, and the ankle bands answer.

  7. 7.Arriving

The person stops at the door they were heading for. Nothing is close, and the kit goes quiet.
